BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey has made a bold assertion about the centrality of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) continued political dominance, stating that without Modi at the helm, the party might not even secure 150 seats in the Lok Sabha. In a recent interview with news agency ANI, Dubey credited Modi’s leadership for transforming the BJP into a pan-India political powerhouse and emphasized that his popularity continues to be the party’s strongest electoral asset.
“Today, Modiji has become Prime Minister for the third consecutive time… but if he were not our leader, the BJP might not have even crossed 150 seats in the Lok Sabha polls,” Dubey stated, highlighting Modi’s unparalleled influence over India’s electorate. He noted that many voter segments that traditionally did not align with the BJP — particularly the economically disadvantaged — shifted their allegiance due to their trust in Modi’s leadership and welfare-focused policies.
Dubey’s comments come at a time when questions have been raised within political circles and the media about potential successors to Prime Minister Modi. However, the BJP MP dismissed such speculation, asserting that he could not envision any other leader filling Modi’s shoes in the near future. “Even in the 2029 general elections, the BJP will likely have to contest under Modi’s leadership. It’s not a matter of choice — it’s a necessity,” he remarked.
He further stated that Modi’s leadership is seen by party workers not only as inspirational but essential for the BJP’s long-term vision. “As long as Modiji’s health allows, we will need his guidance and vision to reach our national goal of becoming a developed country by 2047,” he said, referencing Modi’s stated ambition of transforming India into a fully developed economy in the next two decades.
Since becoming Prime Minister in 2014, Modi has led the BJP to three consecutive national election victories, each marked by a strong mandate and expansion into states previously considered challenging territory for the party. Under his leadership, the BJP has also secured major state-level wins and cultivated support from new social and economic demographics, including lower-income groups and non-traditional voter bases.
While critics argue that such heavy reliance on a single leader may raise concerns about succession planning and internal democracy, supporters like Dubey maintain that Modi’s leadership is the unifying force and strategic advantage that keeps the party on track.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Dubey’s comments reinforce the prevailing view within the BJP that Narendra Modi remains not just a figurehead but the party’s driving force — electorally, ideologically, and strategically.
