Gloucestershire Cricket has secured the services of one of its longest-serving and most consistent performers, Miles Hammond, for the foreseeable future. The 29-year-old left-handed batter has signed a new three-year contract that will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2027 season.
Hammond’s journey with Gloucestershire began over a decade ago when he made his debut as a promising 17-year-old in 2013. Since then, he has become a cornerstone of the club’s batting line-up across all formats. To date, Hammond has amassed close to 8,000 runs in professional cricket, solidifying his reputation as one of the most dependable and versatile players in the county circuit.
His recent form has further cemented his legacy. A standout moment came during last season’s T20 Blast campaign, where Hammond played a pivotal role in guiding Gloucestershire to victory. In a high-stakes final against Somerset at Edgbaston, he produced a match-winning knock of 58 not out from just 41 deliveries — a performance that underscored both his temperament and technical ability under pressure.
In addition to his batting prowess, Hammond has also built a reputation as a top-tier fielder. His athleticism and awareness on the field have seen him claim a club record 71 catches in T20 cricket — a testament to his all-round value in the shorter format.
Gloucestershire head coach Mark Alleyne praised Hammond’s influence and longevity, calling the contract extension a major boost for the club’s ambitions.
“Miles has been a mainstay across all formats for us, challenging and occupying key positions,” Alleyne said. “Gaining a further commitment from him to continue as a Gloucestershire player is brilliant news. I know his influence will continue to grow with this group.”
Hammond’s development from an academy graduate to a seasoned pro is emblematic of Gloucestershire’s focus on nurturing homegrown talent. His leadership on and off the field is seen as instrumental in guiding younger players as the club looks to blend experience with emerging prospects in the coming seasons.
The new deal arrives at a time when Gloucestershire is seeking to build momentum across formats, with the T20 title win offering a foundation for broader success in red-ball and 50-over competitions.
Hammond, who has also captained the side in T20s on occasion, is expected to take on an even more prominent leadership role during the next phase of his career. His continued presence provides much-needed stability to a squad undergoing transition and signals the club’s commitment to retaining its core talents amid increasing competition in the county game.
With the new contract secured, fans will be looking forward to more match-defining performances from Hammond as he enters what could be the peak years of his playing career.
