The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines has issued a strong statement condemning the recent kidnapping and killing of a Chinese national, pledging continued efforts to ensure justice and improve the safety of its citizens in the country.
In a statement released on Friday, the embassy expressed its deep condolences to the families of the Chinese victim and his Filipino driver, who were both killed after being abducted. Ambassador Huang Xilian reportedly launched emergency response procedures as soon as the incident was reported. The embassy coordinated with local authorities and the victim’s family, guiding them through the process of reporting the case to both Philippine and Chinese law enforcement agencies.
Despite the rescue efforts, the bodies of the Chinese businessman—identified in local reports as Congyuan Guo, also known as Anson Tan or Anson Que—and his driver, Armanie Pabillo, were later found in Rizal province. In response, Philippine authorities formed a Special Investigation Task Group to fast-track the case, according to the Philippine News Agency.
The embassy has since lodged a formal protest with Philippine officials, demanding a thorough investigation and urging the swift apprehension and prosecution of those responsible. It called on authorities to allocate all necessary resources to solve the case and ensure justice is served.
Addressing growing safety concerns, the Chinese Embassy acknowledged a surge in serious crimes, including abductions targeting Chinese nationals in the Philippines. It stated that officials had engaged in ongoing dialogue with Chinese communities throughout the country and implemented practical measures to better protect Chinese citizens and overseas Chinese.
The Chinese government emphasized its commitment to protecting its citizens abroad, making clear that crimes against them would not be tolerated. Over the years, the embassy has worked to strengthen law enforcement cooperation with Philippine agencies, crack down on criminal activities, issue safety advisories, and organize awareness campaigns to bolster the community’s ability to respond to threats.
In light of recent events, the embassy reiterated its call for Philippine authorities to enhance public safety measures, bring the attackers to justice, and restore a sense of security among the Chinese community in the country.
Chinese citizens currently residing in or planning to travel to the Philippines are urged to remain alert, take extra safety precautions, and promptly report any emergencies to local police and Chinese diplomatic missions in the Philippines.
