Police believe a man shot in Melbourne’s north on Friday afternoon was the victim of a deliberate attack, as investigations continue into two separate violent incidents across the city.
A 22-year-old from Mickleham was shot multiple times while standing with two others outside a property on Pearson Crescent in Coolaroo around 4:10pm. According to authorities, a dark-coloured BMW drove past the group, and occupants of the vehicle opened fire, hitting the man in both the upper and lower body.
As he attempted to flee, the injured man ran down a driveway and scaled a fence to escape further harm. The vehicle fled the scene before police arrived.
The victim later made his own way to a hospital in Epping, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed the man is known to them and described the incident as a “targeted attack.”
Detective Acting Inspector Andrew Foot addressed community concerns, noting that additional police resources have been deployed in the area to maintain public safety.
“While this was clearly a targeted incident, the fact that it happened in broad daylight on a suburban street is deeply concerning,” he said. “We’re committed to uncovering who’s responsible.”
Authorities are seeking help from the public to identify the BMW involved, urging anyone who witnessed unusual driving behaviour or has dash-cam footage from the area to contact Crime Stoppers.
Fatal Stabbing in Ascot Vale
In a separate overnight incident, a man died after being stabbed during an altercation at a property on Churchill Avenue in Ascot Vale.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 4:00am Saturday and discovered a man with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe the confrontation involved three people, all reportedly related.
A second man was taken into custody at the property and is currently being interviewed by detectives. A crime scene has been established, and investigations are ongoing.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about either incident to come forward by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submitting a confidential tip online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
