During a meeting in Beijing on Friday with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi voiced strong concerns over growing instability in the international arena. He attributed much of the current global unrest to the actions of certain major powers, which he said continue to prioritize national interest, exert power politics, and engage in unilateral bullying.
Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and heads the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, criticized the United States for its recent moves to impose tariffs worldwide. He argued that these actions elevate Washington’s own interests above those of the broader global community and openly defy international trade norms and multilateral systems.
He stressed that the international community cannot remain passive in the face of such behavior. “The United States cannot act at will, and the course of history cannot be reversed,” Wang said. He asserted that China, as a major power and responsible global actor, has a duty to stand against such tactics—not just to defend its own rights, but to protect the collective interests of the world and prevent a regression to a survival-of-the-fittest mentality in international relations.
With 2025 marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the UN-centered international system and defending the global order grounded in international law. He concluded by saying that China is ready to work with other nations to counter any attempts to roll back global cooperation and challenge the current international framework.
